This summer, I interned as a Social Media Intern on the Corporate Communications Team at The Davey Tree Expert Company. I had an incredible experience, thanks to my supportive team. My primary role involved managing and engaging with audiences across platforms like LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Facebook. I also uploaded and organized content to YouTube, tracked sponsorships, created performance reports, and analyzed competitor activity on media channels.
Additionally, I was responsible for developing trend reports to inform strategic decisions and I gained corporate exposure by attending weekly PR meetings. One of my more unique tasks was identifying fraudulent accounts to maintain brand integrity.

One of the most challenging aspects of my internship was managing the analytics and performance reports for multiple social media platforms simultaneously. I initially thought the data analysis would be overwhelming, especially when tracking audience engagement, analyzing competitor activity, and compiling trend reports for strategic decisions. But I quickly realized that breaking the work into smaller, manageable chunks and using the tools at my disposal made the process much more efficient.

The more I worked with the data, the easier it became to spot patterns and trends that could influence future strategies. What I thought would be a struggle, organizing and interpreting a large volume of data, turned out to be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable aspects of the job. It not only improved my analytical skills but also gave me a deeper understanding of how data-driven decisions shape a corporate social media strategy.

I enjoyed learning how much data analysis goes into a corporate social media strategy. It was fun to have hands-on experience with audience behavior and trend reporting. While the exposure was incredible, what truly stood out to me was how impactful a positive and caring work environment can be. Every person I collaborated with was more than willing to help further my education in corporate communication.

Q: Name, hometown, major/minor
A: My name is Lara, I am from Basel, Switzerland, and I am an Emerging Media and Technology graduate student.

Q: How long have you been a member of PRSSA?
A: I’ve been a member of PRSSA for a year.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being on the board?
A: As the website manager, I love having the creative freedom to design what our website displays and seeing how everything works behind the scenes. Collaborating with others and gaining insight into different roles has made me appreciate all the effort that goes into maintaining this organization. Being part of a team that works together to achieve our goals is incredibly rewarding.

Q: What are your hobbies outside of work/school?
A: I love changing up my hobbies frequently to keep things exciting. This fall, I took an eight-week horse riding course, and now I'm focusing on getting into a gym routine. I also enjoy eating out with friends, doing seasonal activities like fairs or haunted houses or just relaxing at home with a good movie. Traveling is another passion of mine whenever I get the chance. I used to play the piano for over 10 years, which is something I like to pick up again every once in a while.

Q: What is your dream company/role and why?
A: I don't have a specific dream company or role because I see my career as fluid, much like how I approach my hobbies. I would love to dive deep into a topic for a few years at a company and then shift to something related but slightly different. While I'm currently interested in a digital marketing career in healthcare, I would enjoy working in digital marketing in any industry if I can truly immerse myself in it.

Q: Favorite movie and why?
A: My favorite movies are “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” and "The Holiday,” with “Gremlins" coming in close. I just love the charm of 80s films! And yes, I know “The Holiday” isn't from the 80s, but with Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, Kate Winslet and Jude Law all in one movie—come on, how could I not love it?

Hey everyone,

I hope you all had an amazing fall semester and an even better holiday season!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Chania Crawford, and I am excited to serve as the spring President of PRSSA.
I am a senior majoring in public relations and will be graduating this spring semester. I’ve been involved in PRSSA since 2021 and have been a board member since 2022. I previously served as the DEIB co-chair for two years and have loved every minute of being involved with PRSSA. Through the PR Kent program and PRSSA, I have met some of the most amazing people and formed my closest friendships. I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to gain numerous career and networking opportunities through PRSSA.

I am super excited about our activities this semester! Our VP of Professional Relations, Tanner Poe, has planned some great meetings, along with a brand-new meeting format designed to get members more involved— town halls! These town halls will give members a chance to connect with the board members while gaining hands-on experience and deeper involvement in PRSSA activities.

If you have any questions about PRSSA or opportunities to get involved with the chapter, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected]. As a senior, I am more than happy to chat with you about classes, internships and anything else you may have questions on.

Looking forward to a great semester with you all!

Chania Crawford.
