My Four Years in PRSSA

Charleah Trombitas
It’s hard for me to grasp the notion that I’m the one writing the senior note. It doesn't feel like four years have past since the first time I attended a PRSSA Kent meeting. Looking back, my time at Kent State and as a part of PRSSA are sure to be some of the best years of my life. I laughed, I cried, I made many mistakes and I grew as a person. To try to sum up my four years into one letter would be impossible. I want to start by extending a thank you to everyone I interacted with at Kent State, students and faculty alike, you helped shape my experience and you helped me to be the best version of myself. Next, instead of continuing to bore you with my sappy feelings about my time in PRSSA, I will share a few important things I have learned over the years:
  • Take a deep breath. Sometimes it feels like the stressful situation you’re in will never end, but it will end. I promise!
  • Say thank you. It’s crazy how far a little recognition can go. Thank your friends, parents, professors and anyone else who is there for you.
  • Learn as much as you can in your Beat Reporting class! I know it seems like a bump in the road, but that class will serve you well for years to come.
  • Dive in. Run for office, participate in committees and make as many connections as you can. PRSSA truly is a platform for success as a PR major. I can tell you firsthand I have gotten every internship and many jobs from my level of involvement in PRSSA.
  • Ask for help. PRSSA Kent members and officers are always there to talk to. Professors always have their doors open. Ask questions about areas you’re struggling with, you’ll end up learning a lot.
  • Have fun! Don’t take yourself too seriously. The PR sequence is not a walk in the park and you’ll most likely always have a heavy workload. Make time for fun, you will regret it if you don’t.
To those of you graduating with me this semester, congratulations! I will see you on May 12th! To those of you that have more time left in JMC and with PRSSA, cherish it and make as many memories as you can. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be wishing you had more time to make memories as your graduation date quickly approaches.
