On April 6, the Ralph C. Darrow Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America at Kent State University (PRSSA Kent) celebrated #BetsyDay in a way that truly represents what it means to be a female leader in the public relations field. Once being challenged to participate in #BetsyDay we decided the best way would be to highlight female leaders. We watched the Plank Center’s documentary about Ms. Plank with our Executive Board and our members, along with reading all about the great accomplishments of Ms. Plank’s career. One thing that caught our attention was how impactful of a leader Betsy Plank was and how she never gave up on giving back to her community. KENT, Ohio (March 1, 2017) - The Kent State University Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA Kent) recreated the 2016 World Series in its latest meeting. PRSSA Kent hosted Joel Hammond, the assistant director of communications for the Cleveland Indians, and Skyped with Kevin Saghy, the assistant director of communications for the Chicago Cubs. PRSSA Kent held an interactive discussion about “Sports Public Relations” on March 1, 2017 Kent State University’s main campus. The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians faced off during the 2016 World Series. The Cubs overcame a 3-1 deficit and won the 2016 World Series in Game 7. All funds raised will benefit students both academically and professionally. KENT October 7, 2016 – The Kent State University Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA Kent) held its annual Homecoming Silent Auction on September 30th and October 1st to raise funds to send 15 of its registered members to the PRSSA National Conference. The Homecoming auction was part of the Kent State School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Alumni Award Ceremony. With the support of local businesses and Kent State donors, PRSSA Kent raised a record amount of more than $8,000, which will reimburse students travel and registration expenses for PRSSA National Conference, as well as supporting other Chapter professional development activities. A team of five PR Kent students earned an honorable mention in the Public Relations Student Society of America’s annual Bateman case study competition. Bateman Blue was one of 16 entrants out of 70 from across the country that earned honorable mention. This is the second time in three years and the third time since 2008 a PRKent Bateman team was recognized with an honorable mention. In 2013, a PRKent Bateman team placed second nationally. Each year, the Bateman competition calls for PRSSA college chapter teams to research, develop, implement and evaluate a public relations campaign. This year’s competition challenge called for increasing awareness and understanding of Student Veterans of America (SVA), a non-profit that supports student veterans in their transition from the military to college life. |
